Home Based Business and the Employee Mindset

The other day my car was having a bit of a slow day in starting, it was a bit rainy outside but no big deal. I get my car started and the rain stops so I take my car up to a franchise battery store. Now I have done quite a bit of business with this store, since I have 3 cars, two boats and various other vehicles that need batteries. I have always found this place to be very customer friendly and helpful. So I take my car up to the store and ask the man to check the battery. Obviously, I was going to purchase the battery from him and he in turn would profit. But being that this man was an employee and had an employee mentality his reply was "We don't check batteries in this kind of weather because we don't want to hurt any electrical part of your car." I said, "Really, do you realize that it is not raining?" His reply, "Yeah, but it could start at any time." Wow, I thought to myself, okay just stay in your employee world and I will move on.
Folks this is exactly the mentality that curbs our growth as home based business owners and we need to realize this to proceed. As a home based business owners you can NOT have excuses for lack of production. There can be NO excuses when it comes to getting your work done. But time and time again we can not help ourselves from this employee mindset. Ask yourself as the owner or your company what you would like to have done today, then review the day as critique your employee as to the progress you have made. Most of us would fire ourselves within a month. Do you miss meetings at work? So you not follow up on assigned calls and callbacks? Do you put on presentations when directed to do so? The list goes on and on, but when we get into these home based businesses our mentality changes right back into the employee mindset and we have no boss.
He is a man who gets paid hourly at a battery store has no care at all for the bottom line of the store and totally blows off a sale. It’s the same as blowing off your schedule and outline for the work you have in your home based business everyday.
Now nobody says it is easy, no one really cares other than you if you make it or not. Here is an outline to work from and examine your progress on a weekly basis:
1. Set a detailed schedule for yourself every Sunday evening for the week ahead.
This includes: number of call, number of presentations, number of follow-ups etc.
2. Set daily goals in actually numbers and do everything in your power to accomplish them.
Example: I will put 2 people to a presentation today.
3. DO NOT get upset or anxious if you fall short of your goals.
Make sure they are realistic and work for a better day tomorrow.
Be a problem solver and don't be afraid of failure.
4. Monitor your progress on a daily basis and keep raising the bar as goals are achieved.
5. At the end of the day ask yourself; what can I do tomorrow to massively grow my business and put that plan into action
Tomorrow immediately and thus you have part of #2 accomplished before you go to bed.
Thanks for spending a little time with me today, I did accomplish one of my goals today and thus will likely not have to fire myself tomorrow. Take care and talk soon.
